It’s official, Wilsden Bantams are busier than the whole of Hong Kong*

Greetings fellow Wilsden Bantams members, it’s been a week or two since the last update on what’s been going on down at WBHQ so we thought it was high time we plugged the old Commodore 64 in and told you about the various things which have been happening and which are in the offing over the next few weeks.

Typically, it’s not been a quiet couple of weeks and it’s looking like the level of activity is going to continue for a while yet.  Before we start though we’d just like to say that we hope you are enjoying the differing range of events that we are putting on for members, we are trying to cater for all ages as can be seen with the recent Class of 96 evening we held through to the Fifa Tournament which kicked off (not literally, but close) earlier this week and is currently in the qualifying stages.  If anyone has any suggestions, or any feedback regarding the events we have organised so far, if you would be kind enough to sent feedback via the contact section of the website, we would really appreciate it.

Ok, so what have we been up to then since we last spoke… Well firstly in our sponsorship news we are delighted to secure the home and away shirt and boots sponsorship for our Captain Romain Vincelot for the season.  You’ll know we already sponsor Colin Doyle (we love you Colin) as main sponsor for this season so to get our Romain aswell it’s fair to say we’re pretty chuffed.  We’ve also sponsored Yasmin Ayub and Abigail Lee of Bradford City Womens FC for the season, we look forward to coming to the games and cheering on the team.Screenshot_20170818-122538Last week we held our Q&A evening with the Class of 96 – we had the privilege of having Wayne Jacobs, Ian Ormondroyd, Andy Kiwomya and Neil Tolson in attendance who, with the brilliant assistance of Tom and Dom from Bantams Banter, told us some amusing tales of their time playing for City and the high’s and low’s of the late 90’s under the Richmond era.  Click here to see how the night went, we hope those of you who attended had a great night.

In the real world, City have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, but that’s ok because in WB world we’re still in tournament mode – we’re talking Fifa 17 (not Fifa 97 as I keep saying, although after losing 9-0 in the qualifiers I might as well be playing the 1997 version!)20170817_185723We’re currently going through the qualifiers so good luck to everyone who is still to play.  We’ve even got members coming from as far as Pontefract to play in this tournament, we’re talking serious stuff.

For those of you who don’t make it through the first qualifier, there is still a chance of being in the next round as we have left a wildcard in for round 2.  It’s all very x-factor isn’t it?  There’s been some real crackers already and the competition is only going to get fiercer as it progresses.  Keep an eye out on Facebook and Twitter for the most up to date details on this, and if you haven’t entered but want to see what it’s all about, come and join us at The Villager Pub on Sunday 20/8 from 6.30pm onwards for the next set of games.

So onto our next venture, which is a Q&A evening with Colin Doyle and some very special Bradford City guest(s).  Colin and friends are joining us at the iconic Wallers Brewery at Sunbridge Wells on Thursday 28th September (7pm start), for what is bound to be a fun evening as Colin and co talk about their time at City and their footballing careers in a wonderful setting.

Tickets are just £5 for members and £7.50 for guests and are available now and can be obtained online – just click here to take you to the events page and then click on the relevant tab to buy your tickets.  Supper is included in the price.

Moving forward a bit, we are going to be the big match sponsors for the Bradford City vs Oxford United match which is on Saturday 30th December 2017.  “So why you telling me this now”, we hear you ask?  Well, the thing is, we’d like you and a plus one to come.   Now, we know the number of hits this website gets on a daily basis, and so we’d probably have to redevelop the main stand just to accommodate everybody, so instead, we are offering you and a guest the chance to join us by taking part in the WB Bonus Ball Draw which is taking place on the 16th December.

bonus ball

All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is to buy a bonus ball for £10 a go (you can enter as many times as you like) and if your number is the bonus ball drawn out on the 16th December, you and your guest will be joining us.  Check our fanzone page for more details about this great opportunity.

Unlike the proper lottery, someone is definitely going to win this one.

Finally for now, we’ve teamed up with Liam’s Smiles to help get families or individuals to games at Bradford City.  CaptureWhat this means is that we can offer free tickets to Bradford City home games for people who might otherwise not be able to, and so far we are delighted to have been able to send 16 Bradford City supporters to the Blackburn Rovers game.  If you are someone, or you know of someone, who would like to benefit from this great gesture by Liam’s Smiles, please contact us and we will be in touch.

Right, that’s it for this week – the Commodore is making a funny noise.  Here’s to 3 points tomorrow against Blackburn and don’t forget to book your Walsall travel with Wilsden Bantams before the coach sells out – we’re travelling with our friends Bingley Bantams again for this one so it should be another good crack.

Up the Bantams 🙂

* For maturity reasons, we didn’t name the busiest place in Hong Kong, but google it – it’s funny.
